Are you using PC Charge?
If you happen to use PC Charge for your merchant account transactions listen up! I have been running into merchant accounts having major problems with credit card transaction downgrades because PC Charge is not set up correctly. This means these businesses are paying more than they need to for their merchant account.
Here is the solution: If the majority of your transactions are card not present (CNP) then go into your PC Charge and make sure your business type is set as "Mail Order" (see below).
If you make this change you should reduce your overall fees on your merchant account. Why? Frankly it would take too much time to explain it here. So just make the change and send me a thank you card after you read your next merchant account statement!

It’s alot more than clicking an option box. The merchants account HAS to be setup for their correct business type.. If they have agreed to a retail contract with their merchant service provider, they need to pass track data. Or they downgrade. So many customers shop based on fees and NOT by correctly selecting their business type.. If you don’t swipe cards, and manually enter them in off a phone or web page order your MOTO or Ecommerce and need to set your software up correctly to ALWAYS match what your merchant provider says yours business type is.
Rich, again you are correct. Here is a post I wrote about the subject - http://www.straightpassthrough.biz/is-your-merchant-account-set-up-correctly/
